Law, Policy and Politics Externship

The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute offers the Law, Policy and Politics Externship for a limited number of 2L, 3L and rising 2L law students throughout the year.

Externs work with the Institute staff, faculty and graduate students in other disciplines. Externs are supervised by a licensed attorney and may have the opportunity to present at Institute sponsored events, publish in the Simon Review, or work with people at partner organizations off-campus. Routine assignments will include legal research and writing, including policy research memos, policy proposals, legislative initiatives, compliance memos, legislative history memos, and may include presentation preparation and delivery. The Institute strives to afford externs the opportunity to pursue research into at least one topic of their interest related to the Institute’s mission.  Externs will have the opportunity to learn the dynamics at play in the formulation of law/policy and the influence of politics and interest groups.
