One Illinois: Noble Aspiration or Impossible Dream?

Throughout its history, Illinois has confronted divisions — between urban, suburban, and rural…Chicago and downstate…affluent and depressed...forward-looking and backward-leaning. These divisions have made it difficult for Illinois to forge a clear state identity or find a common purpose.

The 2020 Renewing Illinois Summit will examine these fissures and consider if they should be viewed as intractable or fixable, as timeless or transitory.

The Renewing Illinois Summit will consider if the idea of One Illinois is a noble aspiration or an impossible dream. The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute will convene students and their academic advisers from across Illinois to analyze this question.

Join us in April to hear from compelling keynote speakers and provocative thought leaders, participate in small working groups with peers, and develop recommendations for the Governor and leaders of the Illinois General Assembly.

Online registration will open on February 3, 2020.
